In the gaming industry, IP doesn’t just protect the product – it *is* the product. This makes it crucial for both publishers and developers to ensure that at the end of the day, they actually own the IP that they’ve always thought they owned. To help achieve that objective, this presentation covers the IP flows for a typical development studio, including inflows from freelancers and staff and outflows involving publishers, as well as the special case of third-party licenses. For each step in the process, it outlines common pitfalls and missed opportunities, and gives concrete advice on how to secure gaming-related IP.
