What is the LusoLife Beat Concert Series?

It's four nights of incredible music, but it's also the chance of a lifetime for these emerging Lusofone artists. They are performing in the hopes of winning a $5000 cash prize, and a recording contract with MDC Studios.

The LusoLife Beat Concert Series is brought to you by LusoLife Beat - a 6-part TV and webseries that looks deeply into the world of Lusofone music that is being created and performed in Canada.

Who is Lusofone?

A Lusofone is someone who speaks the Portuguese language. It is the sole official language of Portugal, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Angola, São Tomé and Príncipe, and others.

What is Lusofone music?

Lusofone music is made up of multiple genres. It is music that encompasses the Portuguese sounds and beats of Africa, through to the sizzling rhythms of Latin America, and in particular, Brazil. It encompasses a significant number of popular genres including rock, pop, electro, blues, hip-hop, metal and electro, kuduro, breakbeat...the list goes on! Other popular modern genres in Lusofone music include dance, house, kizomba, pimba, reggae, ska, zouk and fedo.
