Event description
Please Join us at LWIC's two-day Winter Gathering in Pinaymootang First Nation!

About this Event

The Lake Winnipeg Indigenous Collective is inviting you to our two-day Winter Gathering on January 20-21, 2020 in Pinaymootang First Nation at the Pinaymootang Conference Centre.

The Collective is made up of First Nations around Lake Winnipeg who have gathered every year since 2014. Together as a collective, we have a stronger voice to protect Lake Winnipeg and restore our traditional livelihoods for all future generations. The lake is our collective responsibility, not to be owned, but to be loved and respected.

Join us at the gathering to learn more about the collective and how to sign up to be members. During the year we will be hosting other gatherings and focused activities at and around Lake Winnipeg.

Summary of Fall Gathering:

Day One (Monday January 20) of the Gathering we will open with a shoreline walk and clean up, followed by a presentation on Kis Kin Ha Ma Ki Win: learning science through the land. In the afternoon we will be hearing from Elders perspectives on their life on Lake Winnipeg, followed by a facilitated Q&A.

Day Two (Tuesday January 21) of the gathering we will have a facilitated discussion by guest speaker Aimee Craft on water governance and Lake Winnipeg Indigenous Collective Accord. In the afternoon we will have guest speaker SCO Youth Chief Ashley Daniels present on the youth's national resolution and calls to action.

If you have questions or would like further information please contact Rebecca Sinclair via email at rebecca@lwic.org.
