On April 24 the topic "Nuclear Power: The Case For Refurbishment" will be deliberated by a group of senior industry professionals, financiers, executives, regulators, stakeholders and policymakers. Given the high capital requirements, lengthy execution times and commercial risks of nuclear power projects it is important to have appropriate allocation of commercial and operating risks. Speakers will cover the following topics:
1. The Importance of Nuclear Refurbishment for the Energy Mix - Amir Shalaby, Vice President of Power System Planning, and Andrew Pietrewicz, Director of Resource Integration, from Ontario Power Authority (OPA).
2. Technical and Logistical Challenges of Refurbishment - Dietmar Reiner, Senior Vice President, Nuclear Refurbishment, Ontario Power Generation (OPG) Darlington will describe what OPG is doing to ensure future refurbishment projects are on time and on budget.
3. Regulatory Issues and Compliance - Greg Rzentkowski, Director General of Power Reactors Regulations, Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) 4. Financing Refurbishment - Peter Fraser, Managing Director, Regulatory Policy, Ontario Energy Board (OEB) discusses OEB's recent report on Incentive Rates for Ontario Power Generation.
Confirmed participants for discussion include Paul Acchione, Chair of the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers Task Force on Energy and Ron Oberth, President of Organization of Candu Industries.
