Event description

Description

*Pre-Concert Talk at 6:30PM with Dr. Jeffrey Stokes

With the superbly talented Bobbi Thompson joining us on saxophone, our “Entartete Musik” (“Degenerate Music”) program features works by composers who were censored, blacklisted, publicly scorned, or prohibited from creating art under the Third Reich. Many Jewish artists and composers fled Nazi Germany, went into hiding, or were seized and placed in concentration camps. Their works were at times singled out publicly, where authorities cited Judaism and capitalism as the chief causes for a degeneration in art and music.

The concert will be prefaced by a pre-concert talk by Professor Emeritus, Dr. Jeffrey Stokes. Dr. Stokes will take us inside the lives and times of some of these brave artists whose art continues to speak to us in a profound way today. An event not to be missed.

H. KRASA: Passacaglia and Fugue

L. WEINER: Duo for violin and viola

G. KLEIN: String Trio

E. SCHULHOFF: Five Pieces
