An evening of classical music in the Han residence.

Musicians:

Cristian Kasinski

Cristian began his clarinet and musical experience at the age of 10 in school. His natural ability quickly led to private instruction at the Manitoba Conservatory of Music with instructor Christopher Wolfe where he developed his love for music.

While in high school, Cristian became a regular award winner at the Saskatchewan Music Festival and he enjoyed playing with the South Saskatchewan Youth Orchestra where he really became passionate about classical music. Always looking for a venue to perform, he also played in the University of Regina Wind Ensemble and several community ensembles and enjoyed opportunities to perform solo works. In 2012 he began private studies with Master Clarinetist Naoum Goman in Winnipeg Manitoba and traveled to Winnipeg, Manitoba. He continued to study with Mr. Goman throughout his third year as an honour student in the Bachelor of Music Performance studies at University. Cristian currently studies with Donald Ross and plays in the University of Alberta Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, various community ensembles and personal recitals. Future studies will include Masters in Performance and possibly more.

In the summer to support his music habit, Cristian works as a Lifeguard and swim instructor and enjoys being back at home with his family.

Viktoria Grynenko

Viktoria Grynenko is a young emerging performer born in Kyiv, Ukraine. She studied at the Kyiv Children's Academy of Arts and later at the Kyiv Glier Music College with well known Leonid Schuhman. Viktoria is a winner of two international competitions of Ignacy Paderewski (3rd prize, 2011) and "The Art of the XXI Century" (3rd prize, 2011). Viktoria was honored to be a soloist with the National Oslo Symphony Orchestra (2011). She perfected her skills at master classes with Anatoli Bazhenov, Taras Gabora and Jonathan Chan. In 2011 she received a scholarship from Desautels Faculty of Music at the University of Manitoba (Winnipeg), and continued her studies in Canada with Oleg Pokhanovski. Viktoria has just graduated from Masters Degree of Violin Performance at the University of Ottawa, she studied under tutelage of Yehonatan Berick. Among violinist’s hobbies is contemporary music and art. Currently Viktoria is pursuing DMun at University of Alberta and focuses on violin arrangements of Ballet music.

In 2013 Viktoria organized and performed recital “Violin with Live Electronics” with 2 world premiers (“Xiatne” Zach Bales, “Transient” Henry J Ng) and Canadian premiere (“Toys” Mika Pelo). In 2014 Viktoria performed Stravinsky Violin Concerto at the international Stravinsky festival. The festival was held in the city of Ustyluh in western Ukraine, known as a place where Igor Stravinsky wrote his Firebird and The Rite of Spring. Grynenko is a member of contemporary ensemble Sonor Continuus based in Kyiv and led by Ukrainian composer Pavel Kolpakov. Throughout last couple years Viktoria had collaborated with Ukrainian, Canadian and American composers performing their pieces with orchestra, chamber groups or solo. In summer 2016 Viktoria was honored to be a part of National Independence Orchestra of Ukraine. Since September 2016 Viktoria started volunteering with OrKidstra as a violin Teaching Artist and also enjoys organizing her private violin studio recitals.

Andrea Pedro

As a young child, Andrea Pedro felt a strong connection to classical music that led her to Kwantlen Polytechnic University, where she received her B.Mus. in 2017. Here, she discovered her affinity for chamber music and contemporary music as a piano student of Jane Hayes. Andrea is a two-time recipient of KPU's top music scholarship and served as KPU's Music Peer Tutor 2014-2017. Now at the U of A, Andrea is pursuing her M.Mus. in Piano Performance under the supervision of Dr. Jacques Després. Here she has received a Graduate Teaching Assistantship and a Queen Elizabeth II Masters Scholarship.

In August 2017, Andrea worked with the Orchestra North Summer Program in Smithers BC. As an Academy member, she coached and accompanied participants, won the Concerto Competition, and participated in the Academy Tour of Northern BC. Earlier in 2017, Andrea competed in Performing Arts BC in Kamloops, earning first prizes in National Canadian Piano and Senior Canadian Music, as well as runner-up in Senior Chamber with Trio Erdenlied.


Adriana Jankovic

Adriana Jankovic is fourth year music student at the University of Alberta. She is a clarinetist in the University Symphony, the Edmonton Youth Orchestra, and she has been a member of the National Youth Band since 2016. Recognized as a skillful clarinetist, Adriana has received honourable mentions in provincial festivals in the Alberta Music Festival Association and the University of Alberta’s concerto competition.
