Description
Muskoka Authors Association is privileged to welcome Author and Poet, Lauren Carter to Muskoka for two events on Saturday, June 1. During the afternoon, Lauren will workshop with attendees about making scenes - the building blocks of story. Every piece of fiction, short or long, is constructed out of scenes. In this workshop she will discuss the components of a good scene and how scenes move together to build a short story or a novel. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a triad of scenes that can be used as the framework for the narrative arc of a short story.
In the evening, Lauren will read from her new book, Following Sea, a collection of poems spanning almost two hundred years, exploring family history and the geography of the Bruce Peninsula and Manitoulin Island while also addressing infertility and identity. Following Sea has been described as “a startlingly beautiful collection of poems” (Jody Day).
Lauren Carter is also the author of the novel, Swarm, which the CBC listed as a Top 40 book that could change Canada, and Lichen Bright, her debut poetry collection. Her second novel, This Has Nothing To Do With You, is forthcoming in September 2019. Her work has also been longlisted multiple times for the CBC literary awards and published in the 2015 Best Canadian Stories. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing and teaches online and in-person workshops to writers from around the world, including Syria and California. Visit her at www.laurencarter.ca
