About this event
This workshop is a unique opportunity to explore the "All My Strangers" collaging format and learn about character building from the perspective of Katia Engell!
Come explore the creative and surreal worlds of collage together! Discover unexpected magic together! Bend reality together! All levels of experience welcome.
We will be meeting virtually to get lost in the motions of cut-and-paste and conversation, with gentle guidance from me, Katia!
This workshop is BYO collage materials. You may purchase a "DIY collage kit" from my etsy if you'd like!
Upon signing up for this event, you will receive some ideas for sourcing materials and what kinds of things you might want to look for. If you are struggling to find any, please reach out and I am happy to help talk about where you can find some materials, what you can use, etc.
You will also be responsible for bringing your own scissors and/or exact-o knife, and glue sticks (wet glue is not recommended for this workshop). A precise list of things to bring/consider bringing will be included in the list mentioned above once you have signed up.
We will be working analog - however if that is inaccessible to you re: gathering physical materials, and you are photoshop savvy, you may follow along the workshop while collaging digitally too (and I'd be happy to send you some fun magazine scans to work with! I have an extensive collection).
About the Facilitator :
I have been working with collage as a primary medium for over seven years. My background is in illustration, having completed a BDes at OCADU in Toronto. Since my graduation from my undergrad, I have been a specialized art instructor working with persons with dementia to create art in various modalities. My work in collage has become largely inspired by this work, where exploring the fluidity and nature of reality becomes especially relevant and intriguing. I have also facilitated art programs for children and adults in various contexts including summer camps, after school workshops, and paint-nights! I am very excited to have you join in my casual collage workshop and to pass on a few tips and tricks, but also to learn from you and be inspired by you in return!
