Description

Please Join us for a free class with or without your parents to learn how to make your very own COSTUME!

This is a 2 day session, each 1.5h long will get your idea to costume ready. This class is for sewing beginners. Please do come 15mins prior to set up your machine, get comfortable, meet a few new sewers and munch on some light snacks and refreshment as we will be starting on time. This will ensure we leave home with a finished COSTUME we can brag, YOU MADE IT!

Students will learn:

First Class

  • Know your machine: threading, functions, bobbins
  • How to use your machine
  • Learn how to make a seam, finish a seam and pressing
  • Learn how to choose thread, where to buy your materials for your costumes
  • getting your ideas and solidifying how we can make it with beginners skills(note some costumes may not need much sewing)

Second Class

  • Cut, Sew, Glue, Iron....
  • Step by step guide on how to sew your costumes
  • Costumes with more difficulties may need to be finished at home, please be prepared to take notes

All students are not required to have sewing supplies for the class, but we encourage those who have supplies to bring them as we have limited things to share.

  • sewing machine and all accessories
  • seam ripper
  • chalk, marker, pencil
  • scissors
  • snippers
  • pins and pincushion
  • rulers
  • thread

This Class please prepare the following:

  1. Three different costume ideas we can choose from (we will pick one that is suitable to make). Bring lots of photos printed out or on a digital device or sketched out ---NOTE: Must be age appropriate, G
  2. sketchbook, coloring pencils, pencil and eraser
  3. fabric if you have it already

We do not have sewing machines for students, therefore, each student must bring their own machine if they have one or borrow from a family/friend. If you are without a sewing machine and do not know anyone who can lend a machine for the workshop, please contact the organizer to indicate you are in need and we will buddy you with another student or provide you with a machine.

We are excited to start this class so please RSVP to guarantee your spot!

FAQs

Are there minimum age requirements to enter the event?

Yes, 5+ years old.

Children under 10 years old must be accompanied by a guardian over 18+(Don't worry we got tons of chairs for you to sit and watch and sip on coffee)

What if I don't know how to sew or use the machine?

We will be teaching basics to get you started.

What if I don't have time to purchase fabric for the class?

We will offer fabric at a reasonable price, please bring cash. We can not guarantee that it will work for your costume as we have limited colors and types of fabrics.

Can my children come to the event while I learn?

We advise bringing only the children that are joining sewing, during the class when your child or you are learning it can be a huge distraction. Especially for smaller ones, as there will be sharp objects and our team will be occupied by other learners and are not able to help keep an eye on the little ones.

What are my parking options for getting to and from the event?

Street parking

What can I bring into the event?

All students are not required to have sewing supplies for the classes, but we encourage those who have supplies to bring them as we have limited things to share. Please see list above. Material is needed for this class please be sure to purchase in advance or bring cash.

What should I do to prepare?

If you have your machine, please plug your machine in prior and make sure it works. We would not want a surprise if you show up with a hunk of metal.

Arrive on time and bring your smile!
