Making Sense of the World of Stories
Thu, 13 October 2016, 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM EDT
An introduction to a simple narrative framework that helps children re-create stories by examining the ways in which writers and storytellers organize stories to convey meaning. Dr. Christine Portier, Department of Curriculum, Teaching & Learning at University of Toronto will show how “big ideas” in narrative function in relation to one another so that teachers can work with their students to uncover layers of meaning in texts, respond critically during discussions and activities, and develop a foundation for deeper understanding of all stories, that students will encounter throughout their lives.
Following this presentation, teachers will have the opportunity to sign up for a series of 4 training workshops.
Who should attend: Primary and junior teachers, special education teachers, ELL teachers, teacher librarians
