SESSIONS:

The Billings Ovulation Method - Maria Redecop

Modern methods are scientific, completely natural and do not involve the use of any medications, hormones or devices, they are completely safe and have no harmful side effects. You may have heard about the rhythm method or calendar method for family planning. Calendar methods utilize the history of pass menstrual cycles to predict when ovulation is likely to occur. Calendar methods are based on the couples assumption that all cycles will remain constant throughout a woman’s life. The Billings Ovulation Method is not a calendar method, each cycle stands alone and the pattern of fertility and infertility are interpreted whether a woman’s cycle is long, short, irregular, whether she had just begun menstruating, breastfeeding or approaching menopause. The Billings Ovulation Method can be used effectively to achieve, postpone or to avoid pregnancy and to monitor reproductive health. If ovulation is delayed and the cycle is long or irregular, the woman Who was familiar with the billings ovulation method will be aware of her fertility on a day-by-day basis. There are instances where ovulation might be delayed, not only during breastfeeding or menopause, but at other times of ill health or emotional and physical stress to name a few. Once a woman learns to recognize what is normal for her, she’ll be able to identify what is not normal. If she notices irregularities in her pattern, such as abnormal bleeding or an unusual pattern of discharge, she’ll know to go to her doctor to get them investigated. Her doctor can use her chart to help diagnose the problem and work out the best treatment.

How Hormones Affect our Lives - Megan Soloy-Theil

When Birth Doesn’t Go as Planned - Jill Portelance

You have waited, dreamed and planned for “The Big Day” for MONTHS. You have your bags packed and your birth plan well thought out and written. You are ready!

Many times birth is straightforward and exciting with the anticipated result of a screaming baby placed on your belly, your birth plan going as planned and you are left feeling thrilled and over the moon- with your experience and your birth! But what about when you get unexpected news that throws a wrench in things? Where you need to battle with decisions you didn’t think you would have to make? Or worse, you don’t HAVE much of a decision because things are happening beyond your control. This can leave you feeling sad, disappointed, possibly angry- at yourself or your care providers or just that it isn’t fair! You may feel like your body failed you, your care provider failed you or sometimes even feel a disconnection from your baby. This can be devastating. It can impact your postpartum and certainly your future pregnancies. In this talk, I will address some of the issues that present when birth doesn’t go as planned….but that you CAN still have a fulfilling birth experience that doesn’t leave you feeling devastated. You can heal from a traumatic or unexpected birth experience!

Optimizing Health in Pregnancy - Jill Portelance

In this discussion, I will address some of the things you can do before and during pregnancy to optimize you and your baby’s health and also to prepare your body for labour. Topics will include- supplementations, eating habits, weight gain, activity, safety of common pregnancy related topics- ultrasounds, Induction of labour, etc, preparation for labour! These topics will not guarantee a straightforward or “easy” birth, but they will increase your odds of feeling better during pregnancy and after! There are things you cannot control in pregnancy and birth and some that you can, this discussion is about the things you CAN!

Homeschooling 101: - Agy Fehr & Gretha DenBesten

For our first point, we will talk about the importance of building a vision and a purpose for your homeschool career. We will talk about the different reasons you might consider homeschooling and how to take that information to form a vision. From there on, we will discuss how to pick out your homeschool curriculum to match your vision. We will be talking about the different learning styles of students vs. the different teaching styles of teachers. Once you get a feel for these different styles, we will examine which homeschool curriculums match these different styles. We will finish our session discussing how to take your homeschool to the next level. We will be giving you some of our tried-and-true methods of saving our sanity when the going got tough. These tips will help you to not just see your homeschool as a chore, but to delight in it.

Simply Living - Sherry Peters

There are so many things to be accomplished in a day; things like cooking, laundry, and that never-ending tidying up. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to spend minimal hours on our duties to be able to have time to do things we enjoy? Maybe the answers are not in coordinating containers or pinterest-worthy pantries, but in simplifying what we already have.

In this session, we will explore what simplifying our lives looks like to each of us in the areas of organizing, meal planning, decluttering, creating routines; how to take our focus off all our tasks and really focus on living.

Female Sexual Health: Body Mind Heart & Spirit - Ibbie Afolabi & Amie Latta

During this session, we will be tackling a very important topic. It is a topic that we all navigate in some way or another. It is something that can impact our lives significantly in many ways - positively and negatively. It is an area that many of us have questions and concerns about, and yet still feel is too taboo to bring up.

So what is this topic about?!? It is all about SEX! Now I know there will be various reactions to what you just read. This is because whenever sex is brought up, women experience a variety of responses: guardedness, fear, embarrassment, avoidance, shame, curiosity, relief, etc, etc. None of these responses are wrong. In fact, your reaction to the topic of sex is worth exploring at some point.

Now I do not have a PhD in sex. I’m just a pelvic floor physiotherapist who works with many women who have experienced sexual challenges. And I’ve had some myself. So my interest in female sexual health has been born from my work as a physio and being a married woman myself! I keep learning and walking that journey.

I have passion to see women thrive in all areas of their lives, and I am learning that sexual health is an incredibly important health domain. It is worth talking about especially because many women struggle to thrive in this domain. They live many years with pain, or shame, or confusion, or resentment, or fear, or something else, and they never feel the freedom to pursue healthy and whole sexuality.

My friends - God has better for us as women. And if He has better, then I want it too! Who is with me?!

Female sexual health is a topic that is quite complex and we could honestly create a whole separate conference on it alone. But during our 90 minutes together, we’re going to poset the question:

“what does it look like for me to be healthy and well as a sexual being?”

We will approach our discussion from two key perspectives: I will be covering the physical perspective and will chat about what I see in my practice as a pelvic health physiotherapist. And I’ve invited my friend and professional colleague, Amie, to tackle the mind-heart-spirit perspective. She is a psychotherapist who works with many couples and individuals to help them overcome sexual challenges.

We hope to create a comfortable and open environment during our session. We will take Q&A (written on a slip of paper) so start thinking about your questions now. No question is off the table! There is no judgement from us!

We’re looking forward to seeing you at our session!

Pelvic Floor Health: Pregnancy, Postpartum and Perimenopause - Ibbie Afolabi

Your pelvic floor is small but mighty set of muscles in your body. These muscles do good work for you and tend to be under appreciated….until something goes wrong that is!

During this session, you will learn what the pelvic floor is, its many vital roles, how pregnancy, postpartum, or menopause can affect it, and how to best care for your pelvic floor in various life stages.
