Event Details

Do you love food? Like, it REALLY excites you to try something new & local? Does the term,'Foodie' fit you perfectly?

Well then we are so excited to launch the "#MarketGypsyEats Foodie Meet-up" series starting with Messinger Meats! Saturday October 21st, 11am - 1pm.

Join us at their NEW Messinger Meats Artisan Butcher Shop and Cafe, 2067 50 Ave Gaetz South, Red Deer. They are an authentic 'Farm to Fork' family business. From 'farm-to-fork' they are the real deal when it comes to integrity with their products and now full lunches served with traditional German recipes. They will start the first half hour off with a little introduction and Q&A. They also want to welcome you with a hot delicious coffee and HOMEMADE bread pudding with ice cream sampling.  Ya, they are that generous. Then we will order and EAT.

"We have just had our first lunch at Messinger Meats in Red Deer. The atmosphere, people, authenticity and open concept are perfect. Having lived in Germany for 17 years I will say it is the best traditional German meal I have had outside of Germany. Congratulations." is one review on their Facebook page. Be sure to check their page out.

Why am I starting the #MarketGypsyEats series? I have been in the food industry at levels from retail server to owner and know that every Cafe/Restaurant/Lounge/Grocery Store/Bakery are supporting the community with donations, often so many that they stop mentioning them.
I want to give back to them for a short two hour meet-up.

  •  We will hear why the owners are passionate about their businesses and advocate for local charities.
  •  We will use the hashtag-tweet-Facebook-Instagram-Snapchat the heck out of them.
  •  We will purchase our own meals/drinks.
Let me repeat that, we will purchase our own meals/drinks.
BUT we will use it as a chance to meet each other IRL (In Real LIfe for those who are not sure of that one!).
  • We will snap foodie shots.
  • We will try a new food or drink.
  • We will laugh i am sure.
  • We will learn something new about a supporter of Red Deer and area.
  • We will be inspired.
  • We will be involved and in the moment with what we eat.
  • We will have a chance to go out for a bite to eat without having to convince our other half or friends.
  • We will use the social media platforms for good community support.
  • We will learn a bit more about our community.
  • We can be our own Foodie Rockstars.
  • We can use it as a new blog post, we can use it as a networking event, we can use it to share some of our favorite things. Just show up....well book your FREE ticket to claim your spot.
  • Most important to me, We will support those who support this community = our Food Retailers.

Oh, and we will have a limited number of seats.

~ In this world many people are not sure why someone would do something free, such as organize this. Trust me, this is not a gimmick or anyone trying to sell you something.
This is not an ad, or a paid partnership.
This is simply me wanting to try many restaurants out yet wanting to try them with people who are equally as excited about the food, the ambiance, supporting the community, and to get back to eating together.

To find a connection: Community & Food.

When I first moved here to Central Alberta, I didn't know a soul and often wanted to grab a bite to eat and share the experience. I also found the owners to be inspiring and so generous to this community. That's it. Giving back full circle. That is all this is about.

Come out an join us and meet people in our community, hear about why someone is passionate in the food industry, taste good food, find a connection right here in Red Deer, and put a face to a social media name.

I am using this Eventbrite link so we can get an accurate number of how many people will be attending. This will allow them to prepare if they need an extra person on staff or not. It is free. The food is not. :)

Please use the hashtag #MarketGypsyEats on all social media platforms so that both Messinger Meats and I can answer any questions, share your posts, or post new information. This hashtag will also be used for all other monthly (bi-monthly) Foodie Meet Ups.  We have plans to stay in Central Alberta and elsewhere. Currently I have three booked which will take us to the end of November and will release dates and venues soon.

This will be the first of many, so buckle up, this is going to be a great ride!

Hope to see you there.

Market Gypsy

Foodie at heart, with a dry sense of humor & often a need for an even drier Martini.

Finding Connection with the Land, Food, and Good People.

With years immersed in the adventure to find artisan style food markets, the love of good food, the people at kitchen or public tables, the connection to the outdoors, and seeing the beauty in all things, I began Market Gypsy in 2011.

It is now a creative outlet: Instagram and Facebook for sharing recipes, photos, and some of my favorite places to be.

It leans heavily on good recipes and the gypsy lifestyle of a Northerner who loves to travel and landed in Red Deer.

And yes, I have been in Marketing since, well too long.

I very much preferr to be more behind the scenes. You see, I have shell shock type anxiety when speaking in front of a crowd.  No joke!
