Description

Join Markham Public Library and York University as we bring to Markham a taste of the university experience. Each month YorkU faculty will bring their amazing research and provide an opportunity for our community to learn something new.

Talk description:

How does brain performance change as we get older? What can we do to encourage healthy aging? PhD student Annalise D'Souza will discuss how mental abilities vary with age, and techniques to improve performance.

About the Presenter:

Annalise is a doctoral candidate at York University. She is enrolled in the Psychology Developmental Science program, and in graduate diplomas specializing in Neuroscience and Quantitative Psychology. She studies mental abilities that produce intelligent behaviour. Her research focuses on two main areas — how mental performance changes as we get older, and ways we can enhance it. She recently won an award at York University for her research on a new online tool to measure brain health, developed using an unprecedentedly large group of over 20,000 individuals. Annalise’s research techniques involve using mathematical models to explore changes in mental abilities across the lifespan. She also conducts experiments on real-world activities (such as music, dance, visual arts, yoga, and bilingualism) that may improve mental performance.
