Hosted by MaRS and Export Development Canada (EDC), the International Expansion series brings together business leaders and entrepreneurs, helping them grow their companies beyond Canada with data, insights and expertise.

This Nov. 19, MaRS and EDC invite you to a special panel talk of industry experts as they discuss:

• the challenges of internationalization;

• new and emerging solutions for tech startups;

• the United Kingdom as a market post-Brexit; and

About the Speakers

Scott Bagby, co-founder and CEO, A Retail Space Inc.; senior advisor, global expansion, MaRS

Scott specializes in scaling fast-growing tech companies with a core competency in international expansion. He was one of the earliest employees of the Skype team and was responsible for the initial rollout and launch of the SkypeOut service, which became the company’s top revenue generator. Scott recently moved to Toronto from New York with his wife and two kids.

Stephen Wilhelm, regional vice president, Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), Export Development Canada

Stephen is responsible for EDC’s business development efforts across the EMEA region and EDC’s representations in London, Dusseldorf, Istanbul, Dubai and Johannesburg. Prior to this, he headed the mid-market direct investment and the portfolio management and governance teams within EDC Investments (EDC’s private equity fund), and was responsible for the fund’s growth capital and cleantech direct investment initiatives.

Josephine Coombe, chief marketing officer, Nulogy

As Chief Marketing Officer at Nulogy, a leading provider of agile supply chain solutions, Josephine is responsible for the company’s global marketing and brand stewardship. She joined the company in 2018 and will be relocating to the UK in January 2020 to take on a new role as Managing Director for the company’s UK and Western European operations. Prior to Nulogy, Josephine held senior executive roles in enterprise software, renewable energy and luxury goods. An avid equestrian, storyteller and musician, Josephine holds a BA and MA in English Literature from the University of Toronto and an ARCT from the Royal Conservatory of Music.

Peter Hall, vice president and chief economist, Export Development Canada

With over 25 years of experience in economic analysis and forecasting, Peter Hall is responsible for overseeing Export Development Canada (EDC)’s economic analysis, country risk assessment and corporate research groups. Mr. Hall is a featured speaker at conferences, international roundtables and policy fora, and regularly appears in television, radio and print media commenting on the world economy and Canadian international trade issues. He produces a widely circulated print and video weekly commentary covering an eclectic range of current global economic issues.
