Should you apply before April 25 at 5:00 p.m. you will hear about your application status by April 29. If you apply after April 25, you will hear from the Entrepreneurship Education Team no later than May 6 , 2016.


Summer Intensive Program

Get tools, peer feedback and mentoring from experienced entrepreneurs to help as you roll up your sleeves and develop strategic components for your business.

Our intensive program runs weekly on Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m., from May 11 until June 22, 2016. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. for networking & coffee, and the workshop starts promplty at 9:00 a.m.

It is a great opportunity for highly motivated entrepreneurs to take their startup to the next level!



How to Apply

Step 1: Click 'Get tickets' and fill out the application by the deadline of May 4, 2016. A fee of $250 will be required from each participant. Early bird pricing of $199 until April 25

Step 2: Should you apply before April 25 at 5:00 p.m. you will hear about your application status by April 29. Should you wish to apply after April 29, you will hear from the Entrepreneurship Education Team no later than May 6. Those who were not selected will have their deposits fully refunded.


Selection Criteria and Eligibility

To be eligible for the Summer Intensive program your venture must:

1. Be an early-stage technology based company that fits in one of the three sectors

  • Information & Communications Technology
  • Health
  • Cleantech

2. Be looking to deploy an innovative technology. To see how we define “innovative”, here are some examples of ventures we work with.

3. Not be a service provider (e.g. consultants, CROs, SR&ED agents)

Our selction criteria is determined by:

  1. Stage of venture
  2. Commitment of entrepreneurs
  3. Fit with MaRS mission
  4. Innovativeness of startup

Details about the schedules of the workshops are below.



Starting Lean: Value Proposition

Session 1 – Preparing to leave the building (May 11, 2016 // 9:00am-1:00pm)

Establish a process to clarify and test key assumptions you have about your business and lower your ventures overall risk.

Deliverable: Overview of the Lean Startup approach and a tested interview guide based on the venture’s most important foundational assumptions.

Session 2 – Determining your value proposition (May 18, 2016 // 9:00am-1:00pm)

Use data obtained from customer interviews to synthesize customer feedback into a value proposition.

Deliverable: A framework and template for determining your value proposition.

Starting Lean: Business Model

Session 1 – Designing your business model (May 25, 2016 // 9:00am-1:00pm)

Use your value proposition to test your business model for sustainability and growth.

Deliverable: A business model designed around the participant’s value proposition.

Session 2 – Validating your business model (June 1, 2016 // 9:00am-1:00pm)

Analyze external factors and test your business model for sustainability and growth.

Deliverable: A framework for validating your business model that analyzes external forces and key business model metrics.

Finance Fundamentals

Session 1 – Preparing your business forecast (June 8, 2016 // 9:00am-1:00pm)

In this session, we help entrepreneurs understand the basics of financial statements, management reporting and how to build a detailed cash flow forecast to be used in making day-to-day business decisions around growth.

Deliverable: Expense budget template for your business.

Session 2 – Understanding revenue forecasting, funding and business valuation

(June 15 , 2016 // 9:00am-1:00pm)

In the second session, we will use your cash flow forecast and add revenue estimates by taking you through inputs such as pricing, sales funnel and revenue types resulting in a complete cash flow forecasting model you can use in your business. Entrepreneurs will also learn the basic concepts surrounding different types of business valuations and the inputs and factors that impact valuation from an investor perspective.

Deliverable: Basic complete 12-month cash flow forecast for your business.

Session 3 - Business Valuation and Tutorial Session (June 22, 2016 // 9:00am-1:00pm)

First half: Outline basic concepts surrounding different types of business valuations, and the inputs and factors that impact valuation from an investor perspective.

Second half: Working session/finance lab.

Deliverable: Basic complete 12-month cash flow forecast for your business.




Networking begins at 8:30 am and Instruction begins at 9:00 am

Cost of Workshops

While the program is valued at $3,720, the fee for Entrepreneur’s Toolkit Workshops - Intensive Program is $250. It is open to all entrepreneurs with a specific project or business.

As this intensive program is customized for entrepreneurs, we do not encourage consultants, teachers, advisors or coaches to attend.
