The Ukrainian toy-whistle bird made from clay
The most popular form of “svyshyk” is a bird as it’s sound is quite similar to the cuckoo singing. That’s the exact bird we will be making on our workshop.
Svyshyk could also be made in the form of various animals and people - grasshopper, goat, bunny, fish, rooster, a mother with a child, horse rider, etc.
Svyshyk is an ancient amulet, charm, toy and musical instrument at the same time.
It was invented by the ancestors of Ukrainians more than 7,000 years ago during the Trypil civilization.
In ancient times, this whistle was used in public holidays and ceremonial events and was covered with various thematic ornaments.
The master class will be held at the charity volunteer event "Ukrainian Identity". In addition to master classes, there will be a lot of interesting things! You can see more about the event here:
