Description

An artist, curator, critic and academic, as well as a founder member of the groundbreaking BLK Art Group, an association of black British art students, Keith Piper discusses his hugely influential and pioneering career. His creative practice responds to specific social and political issues, historical relationships and geographical sites. Adopting a research driven approach, and using a variety of media, his work over the past 30 years has ranged from painting, through photography and installation to a use of digital media, video and computer based interactivity.

Keith Piper (b. 1960, Malta) is a multi-media artist and Associate Professor in Fine Art and Digital Media at Middlesex University, London. Recent exhibitions include Jet Black Futures, Beaconsfield Gallery, London (2017) and Unearthing the Banker’s Bones, Bluecoat Gallery, Liverpool and New Art Exchange, Nottingham (2016-17). Groups exhibitions include The Wilderness Way, MIMA Middlesbrough (2017); The Place is Here, Nottingham Contemporary and South London Gallery (2017); Thinking Black, Van Abbermuseum, Eindhoven (2016); and No Colour Bar, Guildhall Gallery, London (2015-16). In 2018, Piper was a selector for the Bloomberg New Contemporaries Open Call.
