Description

Mastering Growth Sales Working Group

“No startup can afford to do any kind of marketing activities that don’t directly move customers through to a closed deal.” – David Skok, general partner, Matrix Partners

About the Sales Working Group

Based on the Young Presidents’ Organization’s peer-to-peer networking model, MaRS’ Sales Working Group brings together our high-growth ventures and encourages them to share ideas, workshop solutions and translate it all into growth.

It’s a candid, unfiltered opportunity to network and make both friends and partners.

Discussion topics include:

  • how to hire, fire, onboard and enable sales team members;
  • structuring sales teams and establishing targets;
  • processes for scaling sales internationally;
  • best practices in ABM, customer success and enablement; and
  • process, tech and revenue operations.

A supportive social network will help you live longer. Don't believe it? Watch Susan Pinker's TED Talk.

How to prepare

  1. Watch and read pre-materials.
  2. Show up on time and respect the confidentiality of the group.
  3. Be prepared to introduce yourself.
  4. Discuss your perspective on sales and marketing challenges.
  5. Grab some free coffee.
  6. Make new friends and connections.

***Seats are limited and by invite only. Please RSVP using the Buy Tickets function in the upper right.

Series opener with guest speaker, Ben Winn

Ben Winn originated the Customer Success team at SeamlessMD, a health venture working with large hospital systems to optimize surgical outcomes for patients. He is now the special project manager at SeamlessMD and works directly with the company’s C-Suite, coordinating multi-disciplinary teams to complete high-value projects.

A Venture for Canada fellow and BetaKit contributor, Ben is also a co-founder of Venture Out, Canada’s first ever-summit for LGBTQA+ inclusion in tech and entrepreneurship.

Ben frequently speaks and conducts workshops on customer success and relationship building, always focused on helping companies drive revenue, retention and growth.

Facilitator:

Nathan Monk, director of growth programming, MaRS

Nathan Monk is a senior growth expert, mentor and entrepreneur who is passionate about closing the growth marketing skill gap in Canada. He brings nearly 15 years of experience in sales, marketing and brand building, having worked directly with over 1,000 early-stage and high-growth, later-stage ventures, including Yahoo, Ogilvy & Mather, CBC, Canwest, American Express and GlaxoSmithKline. He was one of the original members of the lean movement in Canada and the founding director of Techstars Next. He is also the creator of the Startup Book Club and he brought Eric Reis’ Lean Startup Day to Canada.

Most recently, Nathan initiated the first GrowCamp in Canada, a six-day growth programming camp at MaRS that included high-growth ventures, corporate partners and a collaboration with Google Canada. It was the first of its kind in the country and led to the creation of the Growth Marketing Playbook, now available to entrepreneurs.

Nathan is a graduate of the honours business administration program at the Richard Ivey School of Business at Western University.
