Event description
Understanding Autism from a developmental and core deficits perspective; and introduction to strategies to address.

About this Event

This presentation is tailored for school teams (resource teachers, classroom teachers, educational assistants, clinicians) working with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). It highlights understanding ASD from a developmental and core deficits perspective; and provides a relationship-based framework for increasing dynamic thinking and engagement.

In this workshop school staff:

• learn how to use relationships meaningfully to guide acquisition skills required to learn, socialize, and function in daily activities

• learn how to consider sensory preferences when enabling participation in everyday occupations

• learn how to scaffold engagement and activities to encourage exploration and interactions

• build a “toolbox” of skills and strategies to guide children in their exploration of the world, and enable the child’s ability to self-regulate, think, learn, and problem solve
