Event description

Description

This is going to be a sizzling hot double bill featuring two of Western Canada's most outstanding vocalists, Maureen Washginton and Edie DaPonte!

Equally at home in an intimate lounge setting or an outdoor festival stage, Edie Daponte has established a reputation in the music scene of Vancouver Island and Western Canada as a dynamic and engaging performer. Edie brings passion, playfulness and an evident love of performance to her live shows. Edie was nominated as Vocalist of the Year by Vancouver Island Music Awards 2016. Edie's original song 'Ride the Wind' has been nominated in the Traditional category for the 2017 International Portuguese Music Awards (IPMA) . Emotive and passionate, Edie's voice lends itself perfectly to a wide range of jazz standards, seamlessly moving from jazz to Bossa Nova and back again, switching between English, Portuguese, Spanish and French numbers with ease. www.edie.ca

Maureen Washington slips easily from sassy to sexy within a single line of lyrics, at times echoing the haunting tones of Etta James and Carmen McRae, then faster than the mind and ear can make the transition, Maureen Washington exudes the impish irreverence of Jann Arden and the vocal agility of Holly Cole. And yet, with all splendor attached to such comparisons, Maureen’s musical style remains distinctly her own. Maureen was received multiple nominations and awards including 2014 Black Canadian Award's Best Jazz and Soul Artist. She continues to record and perform across Canada at festivals, theatres and clubs. She recently enjoyed a successful tour in the U.K. www.maureenwashington.ca

Maureen and Edie will be joined by a steller band!
