Event description

Description

The Ted Rogers MBA program invites you to join us for our upcoming Speaker Series events as part of the MBA Brand Management course (MB8402) with instructor Irene Berkowitz. The MBA Brand Management Speaker Series offers the public the ability to engage with industry thought leaders on topics ranging from branding to marketing, start ups, and beyond.

Dynamic and fearless (and serial) entrepreneur, Will Poho, is a Ryerson University graduate (FCAD), who went on to do a Masters in global fashion management at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). Poho turned his FIT Master’s thesis, on brand, into a 25 million dollar domestic and international fashion success story, Moose Knuckles. Poho’s inspiration was to convert his perspective of ‘brand Canada,’ i.e. wide-open spaces, rugged individualism, love of sport (especially hockey) and irreverent humour into high-end outer wear. His idea worked brilliantly. While the brand ran into trouble with a few retailers over its name, it is now embraced by global fans, including the fashion crowd and work-through-the-night film crews. Moose Knuckles sells (out) in stores like Holt Renfrew and Saks Fifth Avenue, in more than 50 countries world-wide. Will is returning to Ryerson to share his remarkable story and his advice: “do what you love and always have a fall back plan in case that doesn’t pay the rent.”
