About this Event

Since 2015, the McGill University Centre for Research in Air and Space Law has put together the Strategic Space Law course, the world's first course focusing on various legal and policy considerations surrounding the strategic uses of outer space. Strategic competition is increasing and conflict in the space domain is now a possibility that cannot be dismissed. This course provides a unique educational opportunity for lawyers and other professionals working in the sectors of space national security, defence, international relations, international organisations and industry to study space law in a strategic context.

The Strategic Space Law course will be a 4-day intensive, interdisciplinary programme focusing on various legal and policy considerations surrounding the strategic uses of outer space. The course consists of 16 one-hour modules on key topics of strategic space law including military space and counter-space operations, international and national space law and regulations, national security space policy, law of armed conflict and space cybersecurity law and policy.

This year, due to the pandemic, the Annual Strategic Space Law Course has been adapted to an online format and will be delivered via a popular interactive video broadcasting platform (Webex or Zoom).

The course schedule runs daily from 10:00 to 12:15 and from14:00 to 16:15 from Monday 23 November to Thursday 26 November 2020 (all times EST). The lectures will be recorded and made available to the registrants for two weeks following the end of course.
