Event description

Description

What is an unconference? An unconference is a jointly planned event with no speakers, no fixed agenda, no selling or promotional activities. We are creating an open space to learn, share, collaborate and network. The idea is to assemble a mix of language professionals and individuals from the private and social sectors who have an interest, background and/or relevant expertise in community-building and tackling the larger questions in the language industry.

The general rules of (un)conferencing are:

  • Whoever shows up are the right people.
  • Whatever happens is the only thing that could have.
  • Whenever it starts is the right time.
  • It’s over when it’s over.

Discussion will be audience-generated, and could include any issue relevant to the language industry. Please think broadly about topics that you find interesting and exciting.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Developing a mobile application to reach vulnerable populations: How to determine who receives funding (and under what circumstances) and faciliate direct access to information and services.
  • Community mapping of language solutions: How it fits into people’s lives – personal, professional and recreational.
  • The future of the language industry: What will it look like in 5 to 10 years and how will the role of interpreters and translators change?
  • Possible impacts of technology: How can we create a more adaptable, resilient industry?

Thank you very much for your continued participation and interest in innovating the language services field!
