We would like to invite you to attend our upcoming Distinguished Speakers Series at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute.

Following our Annual General Meeting, we will be holding a Distinguished Speakers Series with St. Michael's Hospital’s Psychiatrist-in-Chief, Dr. Tom Ungar, as the Distinguished Speaker to deliver the keynote address on stigma, followed by our lived experience speaker, Neri Paul, and a panel discussion.

Dr. Tom Ungar is Psychiatrist-in-Chief at St. Michael's Hospital and Associate Professor, Psychiatry, at the University of Toronto and creator of Think You Can Shrink? He is an award winning educator and one of Canada’s leading voices of mental health care. He has experience as both a family physician and psychiatrist, and is certified in psychosomatic medicine. With knowledge translation expertise and innovation and design skills he is a passionate thought leader, and sought after adviser on national continuing education programs in mental health and models of collaborative integrated shared care. The title of his talk is Reducing Mental Illness Stigma in Health Care.

Neri Paul is a mental health survivor. She has been in recovery for several years now. Neri is an artist and spends her time painting at a studio Toronto. She is also a volunteer at the Mood Disorders Association of Ontario where she offers peer support on the Warm Line. Neri will share her speech, Surviving Mental Illness: Never Giving Up, her personal story of living with a mood disorder and self-stigma.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the event will run from 6:40-9:00 p.m. Volunteers will be present to direct you to the room (216) or follow the signage in the building. Please try to arrive a few minutes early in order to register, pick up your information package. Snacks and light refreshments will be provided.

Note: If you are taking TTC, Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute is a 5 minute walk from Queen Station. Walk East along Queen St. and turn left onto Victoria St.
