Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Spend time outdoors with your children this Professional Activity Day. Volunteer in Guelph Lake Park to gather and plant native wildflower and grass seeds. We will be collecting wild bergamot, black-eyed Susan, evening primrose and more at the site associated with the new Nature Centre. Not only will you help create pollinator habitat, but you will enhance a place where thousands of children will engage in active, experiential learning in years to come.

1. Is park entry free?

Park entry is FREE with confirmation of registration. Please let the gate attendant know you are volunteering and show your EventBrite ticket (digital or printout).

2. What are my parking options at the event?

Turn right on the road just past the gatehouse and follow the signs for the main beach. The parking lot will be on your right.

3. Where is the workday located in the park?

Meet at the trailhead kiosk near the new ponds. To get there, walk into the field across from the main beach parking lot.

  • Sturdy, closed-toed shoes are a requirement. Rubber boots may be necessary if it has been raining.

  • Gardening gloves (durable canvas or leather is best).

5. How can I contact the organizer with any questions?

Key Contact: Bronwen Buck, GRCA Volunteer Program Coordinator (

6. Who can attend?

7. I’m a high school student. Can I get credit for community service hours?

You sure can. Please bring your own paperwork.

Psst! We are seeking several friendly, outgoing senior high school or university students with a passion for nature and great customer-service skills to help set-up and assist GRCA staff. Please contact the organizer if you are interested.

8. What is the worksite like?

  • The terrain is fairly flat, but the footing may be uneven

  • You will be walking through long grass

9. Do I need to print my EventBrite ticket?

You may maintain your Eventbrite ticket in digital form. We do ask you register so we have an idea of participant numbers and have a way to contact you if we need to cancel for any reason.

10. Safety and Facilities

  • Your safety is a priority. Upon arrival, we will provide you with an orientation and deliver a safety talk.

  • As with any work done in a wildflower meadow, there is a risk of coming into contact with thistles or stinging insects.

  • A pit toilet is available near the parking area.
