Event Information
About this Event
meagan&amy, the vibrant Canadian duo consisting of pianist Meagan Milatz and violinist Amy Hillis, are the winners of the first-ever “Pan-Canadian Partnership” tour presented by Jeunesses Musicales Canada, Debut Atlantic and Prairie Debut. As a result, the duo embarked on a 2019/2020 tour to 50 different Canadian cities in ten provinces. Featured in a national broadcast on CBC's In Concert in May 2020, their playing has been described as “both fearless and nuanced” (Toronto Concert Reviews). Their debut album, Roots, was released in September 2019 with the generous support of the Canada Council for the Arts.
In search of a classical Canadian musical identity, meagan&amy explore connections between several Canadian compositions and works from the traditional canon of classical repertoire. Their goal is to open a discussion with Canadian audiences about what it is that makes classical Canadian music, "Canadian". Their program pairs Canadian composers including a newly commissioned piece by Jocelyn Morlock with well-known icons that influenced these contemporary composers such as Mozart. This is an opportunity to discover a shared musical heritage that, while inspired by composers of centuries past, continues to develop its own Canadian character.
