About this event

Are you an experienced scyther or a scythe- curious newbie? Want to make hay while the sun shines? Join us, ORSN & FolkCamp, at Mount Wolfe Farm in Caledon, Ontario to learn about scythes, scything and hay making the old-fashioned way.

Tickets $100.00 per person. Limited concessions are available, please get in touch.

You will need to bring your own camping gear and supplies for meals, but we will aim for communal dining on Friday and Saturday evening.

Saturday 27th July6am-9am Scything in the Meadow 9am-10:30am Breakfast10:30-12:00 Introduction to the scythe- history, use, blade types12:00-2;00 Lunch/ Siesta2:00-4pm Sharpening and Peening4-6 Craft activities for Lammas Festival- Corn Dollys, & Straw Plaits. Bring your own ideas to share.6:00 Dinner 7:00 Evening Entertainment including Music and Storytelling Harvest Ritual- We will be celebrating our various rituals around harvest which include Lammas (loaf-mass -Anglo-saxon "hlaf-mass" ) or Lughnasadh (The assembly of the sun-god Lugh) in Gaelic, Zhnyva or DOŻYNKI (in Slavic languages, reaping time, harvest of the grain). Please feel free to share rituals and stories from your own culture. Party Gear!- White linen, cultural/ ancestral dress, or just something special to you!
