Event description

Description

Compass Centre for Sexual Wellness is hosting a book reading in celebration of Pride Week with Ruby Remenda Swanson. Author, Ruby Swanson will read from her book, A Family Outing, host a Q&A session with the audience and sign copies of her book.

Ruby, grew up in a deeply homophobic time, witnessed the emergence of the gay rights movement, and saw the way the AIDS crisis had transformed the LGBTQ community. Despite seeing herself as progressive, she was unprepared when her sixteen-year old son told her "I'm gay."

Ruby will share her experience through excerpts from her book, on how she moved past her initial shock, fear and denial to become a public advocate of the LBGTQ community. She will also highlight the importance of supporting families through this journey.

Books will be available for purchase and copies can be signed.

To help cover the cost of running the event, a donation of $10 is appreciated. However, no one will be turned away.
