Join Drs. Ann Dale, John Robinson, Meg Holden, and Stephen Sheppard as they share results on Meeting the Climate Change Challenge (MC3). Ann Dale, MC3 Principal Investigator, holds a Canada Research Chair in Sustainable Development at Royal Roads University. Her research team and partners will present policy implications released in the recent "Action Agenda for BC Decision-Makers: Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation." Engage with the team and elected officials from the MC3 case study communities in a facilitated dialogue on drivers and barriers of climate policy innovation in our cities. Ann Dale holds a Canada Research Chair in Sustainable Community Development, Royal Roads University, and a Trudeau Fellow Alumna (2004). She was recently awarded the Canada Council of the Arts 2013 Molson Prize for the Social Sciences. Professor Dale is a Board member of the World Fisheries Trust, a Fellow of the World Academy of Art and Sciences, and sits on several editorial boards. Previously, she was an Executive with the Federal Government, and was one of the two public servants behind the creation of the National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy (NRTEE). She is a recipient of the 2001 Policy Research Initiative Award for Outstanding Contribution to Public Policy and the 2009 Bissett Alumni Award for Distinctive Contributions to the Public Sector. Professor Dale holds degrees in psychology and public administration from Carleton University, and a doctorate in Natural Resources Sciences, McGill University.
John Robinson is the Associate Provost, Sustainability at The University of British Columbia (UBC) and is a professor with UBC’s Institute for Resources, Environment & Sustainability and Department of Geography. Dr. Robinson is responsible for leading the integration of academic and operational sustainability on UBC’s Vancouver campus. In that capacity, he directs the UBC Sustainability Initiative (USI) and provides leadership for UBC’s academic, research and operational activities and programs in sustainability. He also represents UBC’s sustainability activities to the broader local and international community.
Meg Holden is a scholar of sustainable cities, engaged in comparative case study research, policy craft and analysis, evaluation, philosophical investigation, teaching, public dialogue and action in cities internationally. She is jointly appointed between the Urban Studies Program, an interdisciplinary graduate program, and the Geography Department at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada. Dr. Holden’s research crosses the domains of urban and social sustainability, sustainability and climate change policy and planning, sustainability and environmental assessment, and urban environmental pragmatism studies of social and policy learning.
Stephen Sheppard teaches in sustainable landscape planning, aesthetics, and visualization in the Landscape Architecture programme and Department of Forest Resources Management at UBC. He directs the Collaborative for Advanced Landscape Planning (CALP), a research group using perception-testing and interactive 3D visualization tools to support public awareness-building, policy change, and collaborative planning on climate change and sustainability issues. Recent research projects lie in visioning and communicating local climate change futures, public perceptions of sustainability, and ethical visualization techniques.
