Interactive Discussions following by Working Groups Session: Meeting the needs of a linguistically and culturally diverse classroom

Speakers: Werklund’s Dr. Rahat Naqvi joins Dr. Jacqueline D’warte (Western Sydney University), Dr. Marjorie Faulstich Orellana (UCLA) and Dr. Patricia Enciso (Ohio State University) in an interactive discussion of the intimate connection between language and culture.

The discussion and working group sessions will consider:

1)How can new language learning also expand broader cultural exploration in differing multicultural and multilingual school settings?

2)How might we apply linguistic and cultural knowledge to the design and implementation of classroom pedagogies?

3)How can intercultural inquiry and understanding change student and teacher relationships and learning?

4)How do we identify and draw upon the linguistic and cultural resources of young people in order to enhance their learning strengths and support their learning needs?
