You are cordially invited to attend the Memorial Dedication in honour of Engineer Gordon McCallum and Fireman W. Stewart Nicholson.

About this event

The Palmerston Railway Heritage Museum Committee cordially invites all railway-enthusiasts and those interested to attend the Memorial Dedication in honour of Engineer Gordon McCallum and Fireman W. Stewart Nicholson, two men from Palmerston that passed away in a tragic derailment in 1954 when Hurricane Hazel hit our area.

Committee member and event organizer, Diane Gilbertson, emphasizes the importance of honouring these men tragically lost and invites their families and the public to join in a dedication to their memory. She references late Art Carr, publisher/editor of the Palmerston Observer who noted, “Hazel hit us very hard, and very close to the heart.”

Doors will open on July 2nd at 12:30 p.m. for a special presentation at 1:00 p.m. at the Norgan Theatre, 275 Main Street W., Palmerston. Following the presentation, a dedication of the commemorative Palmerston Lions Club plaque and the window image in C.N. locomotive #81 will also occur in the Theatre. Afterwards, attendees are invited to visit the Old 81 Engine to view the plaque and window image, and for photos, and finally, they are invited to the Palmerston Railway Heritage Museum to socialize and tour the Museum.
