Men & Healing: From Conceptualization to Engagement. A two day training on male sexual trauma and the recovery process.

Cost for 2 day training is $150.00 and can be made out to: Sexual Assault Centre Kingston. Please include a copy of the eventbrite ticket and names of attendees with payment. Online payment is not available at this time.

Rick Goodwin, MSW, RSW is the founder and Clinical Services Director of Men & Healing, as well as the past co-founder and Executive Director of The Men’s Project (1997-2015). He also served as National Manager to 1in6 Canada from 2012-2015.

Apart from his current managerial duties, he conducts trainings for professionals on issues of male sexual trauma, family violence and trauma recovery across Canada, and in the United States through the organization 1in6 Inc. He is the lead clinical trainer for 1in6 for their work with the American military. He also facilitates both in-person and virtual group trauma treatment programs for men.

Based on his experience in working with men with issues of domestic violence, he has provided training on gender and violence for many years to various local, provincial, and national organizations. Training in gender and violence has taken him to Jamaica, England, the United States, Cambodia, Japan, as well as India, where he conducted gender sensitivity training to male directors of social service agencies. He has spoken at national and international conferences on men, violence against women, and trauma recovery. Rick has also worked as a social sciences and social work instructor at the college and university level.

His research and writing has been published in both national magazines and federal publications. He co-authored the guidebook Men & Healing: Theory, Research and Practice with Male Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse (2009) which was commissioned by the Ontario government. This guidebook is now being used to formulate services in both in Canada as well as internationally. He is co-author of the upcoming Australian guidebook entitled Foundations (2017). Rick was also the author for Health Canada in their investigation concerning the correlation between men’s experience of HIV and sexual violence.

Rick is the inaugural recipient of the Attorney General’s Award of Distinction for his work in “developing and implementing innovative victim service programs” (2007). His other awards range from The Canada Council to the Canadian Mental Health Association, and as well, CAMH’s Difference Makers - “150 Leading Canadians for Mental Health” (2017).
