Event description

Description

This upcoming holiday season, NorthAmerica’s only coal miners chorus are preparing to take audiences on a journey like no other, touring their first ever solo Christmas album, Christmas in the Mine.0!
A Christmas in the Mine tour performance treats you to some of your favourite holiday tunes, sung
in jolly miner style, of course! The group brings their long-awaited CD to life on stage, as only
they can. Sprinkling in a story or two and some jokes for good measure, the choir aims to take
show-goers underground, to share the true experience of celebrating Christmas in a real Cape
Breton coal mine, with real Cape Breton coal miners.

Joining the world famous group, as they deliver Christmas cheer, will be one of today's finest
proponents of Cape Breton fiddle: the incomparable Colin Grant. Colin takes centre stage to
feature his traditional, yet original, hard-drivin’ tunes and energetic style. Colin is also happy to
add some colour to the choir numbers and may even deliver a few laughs along with the fellas.

TOUR CD Christmas in the Mine: The CD itself features the choir at their best, bringing not only
your holiday favourites to life, but also includes the epic storytelling of one of the groups founding
members, “Big Jim” MacLellan. Jim’s steady voice is forever immortalized in this Christmas
collection as he recounts not a tall tale, but a true story of a Christmas eve spent in a deep, dark
mine. Of course, no Men of the Deeps Christmas CD collection would be complete without the
inclusion of the choir’s favourite stage sister, the late Rita McNeil. The men cherish their long
history of friendship and collaboration with Rita, and so have included two of her tunes to honour
her memory. One such number features the beautiful voice of Rankin Family songstress, Heather
Rankin. The collection also includes a thoughtful and original offering from award-winning singer/
songwriter Matt Andersen, as well as an original number from choir member, Tony Aucoin.
