Event description

Description

Douglas College's Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee is excited to offer the following two-day training session at the Coquitlam Campus! December 13th and 14th from 0900 - 1600.

This program is designed to increase literacy and decrease stigma associated with mental health problems. Participants will learn to identify and help someone developing a mental health problem or is in a mental health crisis.

This program is a like a physical first aid program – except with a focus on MENTAL health.

Have your employees ever had to deal with a mental health challenge – and did not know what to do?
This course is a must have for all people who work with the public and anyone interested in learning about mental health and mental health problems.

Participants will learn the types, signs, symptoms and risk factors associated with the following mental health issues:

  • Substance related disorders (alcohol and drug addiction) and how to help someone having an overdose.

  • Mood disorders and how to help someone who is feeling suicidal

  • Anxiety disorders and how to help someone having a panic attack or an acute stress reaction.

  • Psychotic disorders and how to help someone having a psychotic episode
