Mental Health First Aid – Standard

Participants in Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) are equipped with the skills, resources, and assurance needed to recognize and respond to a mental health issue or emergency. The Mental Health Commission of Canada will issue a certificate to the student if they successfully complete the programme.

Format: MHFA Standard (face-to-face); Module 1: Self-Directed and Module 2 & 3: In person

Length: 9 hours. Self-paced Module 1 must be finished prior to the in-person portion. The in-person, one-day, 7 hours modules 2 and 3 will take place at the location you chose when you registered.

Learning Goals

  • Recognize warning signals of a mental health crisis or deterioration
  • Have conversations to urge the person to discuss their deteriorating mental health and consider their support choices
  • Utilize MHFA strategies to maintain one's own mental health
  • Connect the person to support resources
  • Assist in the event of a mental health or substance use emergency
