Event Details

How MHFA training can help you:

  • Gives you greater confidence in helping a person living with a mental illness
  • Increases your knowledge of mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and psychotic episodes
  • Trains you how to respond to someone who may be experiencing these conditions using set action plans and crisis intervention strategies
  • Decreases stigmatized attitudes and makes the point that mental illness is a medical condition to be managed
  • Improved mental health of participants

This is a certified training program from the Mental Health Commission of Canada and is part of The National Standard for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace. This training is currently the only international mental health training program that is being delivered in 23 countries around the world and growing.

What is included in the course:

The training covers the following four topics:

  1. Substance Disorders and crisis first aid for overdosing
  2. Depression, Bi-Polar, and crisis first aid for suicidal behavior
  3. Anxiety Disorders and crisis first aid for panic attacks & acute stress episodes
  4. Psychotic Disorders and crisis first aid for psychotic episodes

Our course is also fully catered with breakfast, lunch, snacks, and refreshments both days.  FREE parking

Who can take Mental Health First Aid?

ANYONE over the age of 16 is welcome to take this course.  You do not need any formal training or prior knowledge in mental health.  If you have a family member, friend, employee, or colleague who you think has a mental illness and you want to help – then this is the course for you! 

We especially encourage Human Resource Professionals, First Responders, and anyone who is a manager or supervisor to attend this training.  It can be highly beneficial in your roles assisting employees living with mental illnesses.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

Yes participants must be at least 16 years of age. 

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

We offer free parking for the two days at our hospital.  Public Transit is also availble.  Please email us to get more detailed public transit directions. mhfa@ontarioshores.ca 

What can I bring into the event?

We will provide all materials, writing utensils, as well as food and beverages.

What's the refund policy?

Full refunds can be made anypoint up to 2 weeks before the event.  Within two weeks there will be a non-refundable catering and administration fee of $100.
