Event description

Description

Did you know that 70% of adult mental health challenges develop during childhood or adolescence? Did you know that only 25% get the help they need at the time they need it with stigma and lack of awareness often being factors?

Here at Paul Hansell Foundation (PHF), we are doing something about those statistics. Through our awareness campaign and movement to Keep the Conversation Going for Mental Health the needle is moving.. #ConvoPlate is our unique initiative.

This fundraising event will help PHF take the crafting of #ConvoPlate directly to where the youth are - schools, clubs, drop-in centres, teams.

The goal of this fundraiser is to conduct 15 #ConvoPlate crafting sessions in the community between September 2018 and May 2019. Imagine the Conversations that you will help to start with a total of 450 youth directly participating in the program, plus the domino effect of sharing the activity with their family (avg. 1350 people), friends, teammates and fellow students. The number of Conversations could reach into the thousands. And it all would have started with YOU.

You will find the impact is not just on the youth, but you and those around you as well, whether at work, home, or in the community. Beyond that, you will be part of the overall movement; we stand an excellent chance of having over 1,000 #ConvoPlates in circulation and raising $1 million for mental health charities and causes.

About the #ConvoPlate - On May 5th, 2016, PHF launched a unique initiative, #ConvoPlate, a movement to Keep the Conversation Going for Mental Health. The #ConvoPlate serves three purposes: 1) Stimulate conversations about mental health; 2) Inspire everyone to do something daily for the good of their mental health, and 3) Raise money for mental health charities and causes. In less than two years there are 500 #ConvoPlates in circulation, there have been over 100,000 conversations related to mental health, and we estimate $500,000 raised for mental health charities and causes.

#ConvoPlates are crafted, predominantly by youth, through an Art Therapy Program that PHF supports through the Art Gallery of Burlington. No two plates are alike.

The initiative and #ConvoPlates have spread across Canada and become global in scope, reaching six continents. A richer appreciation for the travels of #ConvoPlate can be found through our tracker (link below) or by a search on social media.

About the Paul Hansell Foundation - The Paul Hansell Foundation was created after Paul tragically lost his life to suicide in December of 2010. A not for profit, our mission is to support programs aimed at the mental and emotional wellbeing of children and youth.
