Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Description

After having our Life After High School workshop, we realized how stressed and anxious students are. We frequently received questions like "How do I manage working a part-time job and going to school full-time?" or "Is post-secondary school THAT stressful?" So, we decided to help them!

On August 14th, Empower The Future will be holding a mental wellness workshop called, Mental Wellness + You, at the City Centre Library from 6:30-8:30. Youth and their parents are welcome to engage in a conversation with health professionals, undergraduate students, and community organizations about mental health! Be sure to register.

  • Learn about different mental illnesses, symptoms, and treatments

  • How to help someone who has a mental illness and/or is stressed

  • What are the types of stress situations that occur in post-secondary school/high school

  • Hear experiences from people who have mental illnesses or high stress situations

  • Develop skills to help manage stress like meditation, coloring, physical activity etc.

This is a free event supported by the University of British Columbia, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Science Undergraduate Society, Oak Avenue Neighbourhood Hub, and the Vancouver Foundation.

There will be:

  • Mental health professionals, undergraduates, and community organizations presenting
  • Free drinks and snacks
  • Free resources packages
  • Prizes
  • Mental health booth sessions

Register by July 20th to be entered into a draw to win a Chapters and Starbucks prize pack!
