Event description

Description

As our city grows around us how can we ensure that it remains a neighbourhood that includes all members of community.

Brian Doucet is a professor at the University of Waterloo School of Planning. He has written books on the revitalization of Detroit and gentrification in Rotterdam and Glasgow. He focuses on gentrification and neighbourhood change, urban inequalities, flagship developments, urban entrepreneurialism, grassroots movements and urban resistance.

As a member of our neighbourhood Brian has shown a keen interest in the challenges and opportunities that our neighbourhood has as it changes with the rest of the city. He was recently profiled on the CBC and in the Record for his editorial on our once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for diversified housing with the new LRT lines. He will provide examples of how other communities have adjusted for the changing needs of housing.

After Brian's talk we will have discussion groups to talk about what can be done in our neighbourhood to both accommodate newcomers and sustain members of our community that already live here.
