Executive compensation has received a lot of attention over the last few decades, especially during economic downturns. While all stakeholders involved believe that executive pay should be linked to performance, finding the right performance measure and compensation design is both a science and an art. Caroline’s research examined the effects of firm size and performance on CEO pay using current data of S&P/TSX Composite Index companies.
Key findings include that firm size is the most important determinant of CEO pay; firm performance measured by shareholder wealth has small positive effects on CEO pay; and equity incentive vested value has the strongest correlation with firm performance, indicating that equity incentive plays an important role in aligning CEO interest with that of shareholders.
Light refreshments will be served.
