Learn practical ways to manage stress, burnout and anxiety.


Have you ever been caught in a negative internal narrative, or struggling with self-doubt?


This 8-week mindfulness program is directed in reducing rumination - the running commentary that hooks people into negative states of mind. Through sustained pracitce, mindfulness assists us in becoming more aware of our automatic reactions, and provides an alternative in responding differently. Benefits include increased mental resilience and improved distress tolerance.


Take an interactive online course in the comfort of your own home. This will include small group discussions and interactive learning activities to promote practial application of mindfulness in everyday life.


Requirements include a stable internet connection, and a webcam.


*The completion of an 8-week mindfulness program is a pre-requsite for Mimentra's Mindfulness Facilitator Training course.

  • Week 1: Awareness to Auto-Pilot: Being vs Doing

  • Week 2: Living Inside Our Heads: Role of Perception

  • Week 3:  Gathering the Scattered Mind: Impartial Observation

  • Week 4:  Stress and Stress Reactivity: Recognizing Aversion

  • Week 5: Allowing/Letting Be: Mindfull Responding to Difficulty

  • Week 6: Thoughts Are Not Facts: Leaning Towards Discomfort

  • Week 7: Cultivating Self Care: Daily Practice

  • Week 8: Beginning of the End: Coming Full Circle


Audio guided practices will also be included. 


This is a secular group, with no affiliation to any particular religion or spiritual practice.

Day of Silence - Sunday, November 10, 9:00am - 3:00pm.


Requried Course Text 

Mindfulness: An 8-week plan for finding peace in a frantic world by Danny Penman and Mark Williams (link). 

Program Includes:

  • 8 week program

  • Day of Silence  

  • Weekly handouts

  • Guided meditation audio recordings

  • References and resources guide

  • Letter of completion for professional education credits (on request)


Facilitator Bio


Derek Luk (RN MN) completed his graduate thesis on the use of mindfulness programs in reducing burnout for healthcare professionals. He has worked as a registered nurse for over 10 years in mental health, has taught over ten mindfulness 8-week programs. His professional training includes completing the 10-day intensive Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Facilitator Training offered by MBSR Ottawa Dr. Steven Hicks and Dr. Rachael Crowder, and a five-day Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy facilitator training offered by Susan Woods and Dr. Mark Lau. Derek completed his advanced MBCT facilitator training from the Centre for Mindfulness Studies.


In supporting mental wellness in organizations, Derek was selected as a Top 40 Under 40 in Avenue Magazine and Educator of the Year by the College and Association of Registered Nurses in Alberta in 2018.


Derek has partnered with large organizations in providing mindfulness training, notably the Calgary Police Service and University of Calgary.
