Event description

Foundational training provides the essence of mindfulness in experiential learning, and allows participants to learn the basics of guidance.

Whether starting an introduction to mindfulness program at your workplace, or those new to facilitation, this 3-day intensive training will review the neuroscience regarding mindfulness-based interventions, best practices in supporting participants with mental health conditions, and lead specific practices such as the body scan, awareness of breath, mindful movement, and inquiry.

Who Should Attend

Course Description

This introductory and experiential workshop teaches new facilitators principles, practices, and current neuroscience research regarding MBIs. Based on experiential learning, participants will experience an opportunity to practice facilitating an introduction to mindfulness presentation, guided practices, and mindful inquiry.

The training is based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). Originally developed for those experiencing chronic pain and preventing depressive relapse, this training combines the practice of mindfulness meditation with the tools of cognitive therapy.

Participants will explore how to work with negative states of mind that contribute to changes in mood, while understanding how mindfulness can be helpful in establishing a new relationship through experiential inquiry. In addition, participants will be introduced to the theoretical components of MBI, receive an overview of the program as well as an understanding of the contraindications and clinical applications.

This module is primarily to strengthen one’s understanding regarding mindfulness, and support the development of foundational skills for new facilitators. Instructions will be provided in guiding a body scan, awareness of breath, mindful movement, and 3-minute breathing space.
