About the Retreat
Experience what it means to be truly present in the body as we practice yoga, meditate, and dance together. This retreat will allow you to relax into new or familiar yoga poses and true expression through belly dance movements. The time we spend together will be dedicated to drawing attention inward to connect with body, mind, and spirit.

The Studio
Nestled away on Algonquin Island, our studio space is an open air platform surrounded by lush gardens and trees. Located minutes away from Ward's Island Beach, rolling meadows, and gentle woods it is the perfect environment to reconnect with nature.
Your Teachers
David Taller is a dedicated Yoga and Meditation instructor, artist, enthusiastic gardener, and founder of Toronto Island Yoga Centre. He has been practising yoga for 8 years and teaching Vinyasa and Hatha classes with devotion and compassion for 4 years. Recently he has begun to incorporate elements of Qi Gong and the Chakra system into his practice. His students appreciate clear guidance through all poses, and concise instruction through the philosophy of Yoga served with a bit of refreshing humour.
S'ya Bellycian
A long-time bellydancer and avid meditator, S'ya offers unique classes & workshops in the interest of uplifting, empowering and possibly healing others through the transformative power of belly dance movement – by incorporating a healthy dose of playfulness, mindfulness, relaxation, self-love and body acceptance into the experience.
FAQs
How can I get to Ward's Island?
All you need to do is arrive at Jack Layton Ferry Terminal at 9:00AM the morning of your scheduled retreat. Attendance at this retreat covers the cost of your ferry ticket and guarantees your entry to Wards Island.
Who should come?
All bodies are welcome! It doesn't matter if you've never tried to do yoga, dance, or meditate this retreat is appropriate for anyone who has the desire to learn. A positive attitude is all that's necessary to experience these mindful movements and meditation.
What food is served?
All of our meals and snacks will be vegetarian food sourced from the surrounding gardens or through an ethical supply chain. Special accommodations (vegan, gluten free, dairy free, egg free) will be able to be made with advanced notice.
What should I bring?
Everything you find useful during your usual yoga practice is advised, however there are plenty of mats at the studio. It would be smart to bring:
- Sun protection
- insect repellant
- beach towel
- walking shoes
- good intentions
What should I wear?
Please wear whatever allows you to move comfortably. For mindful belly dancing, put on whatever makes you feel beautiful and empowered. You can choose to bare your belly or not – it is entirely up to you.
