Description

This Mindfulness in Nature Day Retreat will combine indoor, outdoor, seated, movement and interactive practices, all in Noble Silence. This day retreat is the perfect way for both beginner and experienced meditators to deepen their engagement with nature and discover themselves through mindfulness practice in a wilderness environment. The retreat will take place in a Gatineau Park location TBA within one month of the retreat. Lunch and snacks will be included.

The Mindfulness in Nature group sponsored by Wild Blue is based on the book Awake in the Wild: Mindfulness in Nature as a Path of Self Discovery by Spirit Rock Senior Teacher Mark Coleman.

Mindfulness in Nature practices will be guided by mindfulness teacher Kimberly Sogge, Ph.D. (RYT, MYMT Spirit Rock, Awake in the Wild Facilitator-in-training).

Sessions are "sign-up as you go" so participants may register for one or all sessions. None of the sessions, except for the two day winter retreat in December 15-17, 2017 at Voyageur Quest in Algonquin Park require any prior meditation experience. For planning purposes, please register online so we know to expect you.

Sessions will be conducted out of doors so please dress appropriately, with closed-toe shoes, clothing appropriate to the weather, hats etc. Please bring a water bottle to all sessions, and any meditation props that you find to be helpful (cushion, yoga mat, backjack or lightweight chair for sitting practice). Most sessions will include some gentle movement or walking practice so please offer care for yourself around mobility issues.

Sessions indicated with a ** will have hiking in hills or more rigourous physical activity.

Locations for all sessions will have final confirmation at least 24 hours in advance so please check in here for final confirmation on location, or register online, as email notifications on location changes will only be emailed to registered participants.

We look forward to awakening in the wild together.

Wild Blue Meditation

Organized by

intends to offer Canadian mindfulness in nature and wilderness retreats, trainings and community resources that support awakening to our true nature and our profound connection to each other and the living world.  We consider awakening as a process both internal/personal, and also engaged with external/relating to others and to the living world.

Inspiration:

Wild Blue Mindfulness offerings draw on the ecodharma teachings of zen teacher David Loy, the engaged buddhism of Theravada teachers Kittisaro and Thanissara with the Sacred Mountain Sangha, and mindfulness in nature practices as taught by Mark Coleman of Awake in the Wild and Spirit Rock.

Teacher:

Dr. Kimberly Sogge C.Psych. is the teacher for Wild Blue Mindfulness community resources such as WBM Friday night community meditations, WBM Sunday morning WBM trail runs & hikes, WBM daylong, weekend and five day mindfulness in nature and wilderness retreats, and Wild Blue Mindfulness meditation in nature practices.

Meditation Locations:

Friday evening community meditations are in the WBM meditation studio co-located with the Ottawa River Psychology Group at 44 Hawthorne Avenue, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Daylong meditation in nature retreats are held at natural locations within 40 minutes of Ottawa.

Mindful trail runs and hikes are held in conjunction with Mindful Running (founded by Timothy Olson out of Boulder Colorado) and take place at various locations in Gatineau Park.

Weekend and overnight retreats are held in the bio-region of the St. Lawrence within driving distance of Ottawa (for example Algonquin park, LaPeche Quebec or on the Ottawa River in Arnprior, ON among others).

Teacher Bio:

Dr. Sogge completed her Ph.D in Psychology at Texas A&M University and her APA accredited doctoral residency at University of Texas at Austin where her early mindfulness teacher training was with Jon Kabat Zinn and Saki Santorelli at Omega Crossings; she was supervised in her mindfulness teaching under a zen practitioner as she worked with the Behavioral Health Team at UT-Austin to introduce the first ever Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction courses to the UT-Austin student population.  She has taught MBSR, Mindful Self Compassion and mindfulness and compassion meditation in medical schools, to military veterans, government departments, sports teams, and the community since 2004.   Kimberly is a certified  professional mindfulness teacher whose training has been evaluated and certified by the International Mindfulness Teachers Association.  She has completed multi-year training programs in mindfulness teaching and facilitation with Spirit Rock senior teacher Mark Coleman (two year Awake in the Wild facilitator training), Spirit Rock (two year Mindfulness Meditation and Yoga Training) and is a Certified Mindful Self Compassion Teacher with the Center for Mindful Self Compassion.  Kimberly has assisted in retreats and trainings with experienced mindfulness and compassion leaders such as Awake in the Wild founder Mark Coleman, Mindful Self Compassion founder Kristin Neff, and ecodharma teacher David Loy.  Kimberly was grandfathered in as an MBSR teacher prior to the existence of MBSR teacher training programs in the early years of the University of Massachusetts Centre for Mindfulness in Medicine, Healthcare and Society.
