Description

During this interactive 2 hours, participants will learn about the functions of emotions, as well as strategies to implement mindfulness based skills to effectively manage intense emotions.

This workshop is geared toward individuals looking to learn about regulating their emotions using practical strategies to help manage and cope with difficult situations. The workshop also provides an excellent hands-on learning opportunity for mental health practitioners.

Mindfulness practices will be woven into the talk and participants are encouraged do dress warmly and comfortably, bringing any additional support they need for sitting in guided practices to work with the skills taught by the workshop facilitators.

The talk will cover an overview of emotions, emotional dysregulation and skills to work with emotions. All attendees are invited to ask questions and make comments throughout the workshop as well as share their individual experiences.

Hani Gorji RN. BScN. CPMHN© is a Registered Nurse and has worked for St. Joseph’s Health Care in a variety of mental health setting for the past 16 years, including an acute in-patient unit, psychiatric emergency service, Bridge to Recovery Day hospital Program and most recently in the Community Psychiatry Clinic as an out-patient mental health clinician treating individuals with psychiatric disorders.

Katherine Holshausen, PhD, C.Psych is a clinical psychologist in the Borderline Personality Disorder Service, and is also the Research Director of the Community Psychiatry Clinic at St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton. Katherine is also an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neuroscience at McMaster University. Katherine has an extensive history working with individuals with serious psychiatric disorders, including depression, bipolar disorder, psychotic disorders, and borderline personality disorder.
