Event description

Description

Come and see a ‘hidden gem’ on the U of A campus. The Mineralogy and Petrology Museum houses hundreds of samples of rocks and minerals, including meteorites and diamonds! Participants will also get a behind-the-scenes tour of the University’s Meteorite Collection, containing over 1400 meteorite specimens from around the world, in the state-of-the-art Meteorite Lab. The tour will be led by Prof. Chris Herd, a meteorite specialist and curator of the collection.

The museum exhibits specimens from the Drill Core, Mineralogy, Petrology, and Meteorite collections. It is located in B-08 of the Earth Sciences Building.

The tour is limited to 18 people and will last approximately 1.5 hours on November 2, 2017 at 12 noon.
