Event description

Description

Minimizing Resistance and Maximizing Engagement Effectively.

What is termed "Resistance" within the therapeutic relationship is a symbolic wall that exists between the client and clinican. This wall is one of the most common reasons for poor clinical outcome, early termination or even open hostility in sessions. Attempting to tear down this wall can lead to further distance being created in the therapeutic relationship.

In this one day workshop, participants will be able to better evaluate sources of resistance and develop effective responses to engage clients. A wide range of practical tools, techniques, activities and strategies will be provided which can be brought into any therapeutic relationship where resistance emerges.

Participants will leave with a clear understanding of the various client issues related to resistance and how to utilize specific tools/strategies which will reduce the incidence of resistance emerging.

Objectives:

  1. To have an understanding of the purpose of resistance as a natural response
  2. To be able to better assess sources of resistance (client/clinician/external)
  3. To be able to utilize specific tools/activities/strategies to turn resistance into engagement
  4. To be able to utilize specific tools/activities/strategies to prevent resistance from emerging
  5. To know how to make sessions more playful and engaging for all ages
