Pain affects over 40% of Canadians aged 45 or older and up to 80% of all seniors. People spend more money on pain than any other condition, yet health care professionals do not always have access to the tools needed to help patients effectively manage their conditions.

This conference will cover topics such as:

  • What are considered best practices?
  • How can understanding pain help treatment providers and those advocating for your patients?

About the Speakers



Dr. Imrat Sohanpal, Anesthesiologist, Medical Director, Allevio Pain Management

Dr. Sohanpal is the Chair of the Allevio Pain Management Medical Advisory Board and Medical Director of Allevio Pain Management. Dr. Sohanpal has a particular interest in the assessment and management of spinal and other pain conditions.

He is a licensed Anesthesiologist who attained Advanced Pain Training for his fellowship at University College London in England. Dr. Sohanpal is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Dr. Sohanpal focuses his practice of Anesthesiology, acute and sports pain, regenerative medicine research and chronic pain management.

Dr. Sohanpal has performed over 1,000 Radiofrequency Ablation procedures, and is proficient in ultrasound guided injections of all anatomical MSK pain and for regenerative medicine.

Dr. Rahul Pathak, Neurologist, Allevio Pain Management

Dr. Pathak is Allevio’s full time neurologist, and has a particular interest in the assessment and management of headaches, migraines, and facial pain in addition to general pain conditions. He is a licensed Neurologist who attained an Interventional Pain Management fellowship at New York University Medical Center, and attended residency at Stony Brook University Hospital in New York.

Dr. Pathak focuses his practice of Neurology on headaches and other neurological-based pain conditions, and maintains a thriving chronic pain practice for other conditions as well. Dr. Pathak is proficient in a myriad of techniques for treating challenging conditions such as cluster headaches, migraines and mild traumatic brain injuries.

Ross Hendin, Co-Founder and CEO, Allevio Pain Management

Ross is Co-Founder and CEO of Allevio Pain Management. Over the last six years, Ross has grown the Allevio clinic into one of the largest, most respected practices of its kind in Canada; seeing patients from coast to coast, and across Ontario through one centre in Toronto.

Ross has simultaneously grown the Allevio expert opinion division into a leading IME practice and is a driving force helping to educate and bridge the gap between medicine and law. Ross remains keenly focused on continuing to open the bottleneck between patients who need care and those in the system trying to help.

Ross graduated with a BA (Hons) in Political Science from Huron University College, part of the University of Western Ontario.


Troy Lehman, Partner, Oatley Vigmond, LLP

A graduate of the University of Western Ontario law school, Troy was called to the bar in 2001. He received the highest mark on the Bar Admission course by anyone from Western University. Troy joined Oatley Vigmond in 2006 and became partner in 2010.

Troy takes great satisfaction in helping seriously injured people and their families through difficult times. The cases that Troy finds most gratifying are the difficult ones where there is a need to be especially creative and determined to obtain the compensation that his clients need. His satisfaction comes when he has helped make a real difference in someone’s life in a situation that looked bleak in the beginning.

Troy is a Certified Specialist in Civil Litigation, listed in Best Lawyers for 2017 and was ranked as a top lawyer in Lexpert for 2017.

Lara Fitzgerald-Husek, Lawyer, Oatley Vigmond, LLP

Lara completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto in Ethics, Society, and Law and International Relations. She obtained her Juris Doctor and Master of Public Administration at Queen’s University and also completed the International Business Law program at the Bader International Study Centre in England. Lara was called to the bar in 2013.

Lara joined Oatley Vigmond after practicing insurance defence at a leading national firm. The experience of representing many of Canada’s largest insurers has provided Lara with valuable insight into personal injury claims, allowing her to better serve her clients.

Lara’s practice focuses solely on personal injury law, including motor vehicle accidents, accident benefits, medical malpractice, occupier’s liability, and product liability cases.


Josie Skelly, Accident Benefits Specialist, Oatley Vigmond LLP

Josie has been working in the legal industry since 1987. She joined Oatley Vigmond in 1995 as a Senior Law Clerk, having developed expertise in demonstrative evidence applications, particularly in the areas of mediation and trial preparation. She was drawn to accident benefits as she longed to provide hands on support to clients and their families.

As an Accident Benefits Specialist, Josie provides prompt and effective assistance with accessing insurance benefits to which clients are entitled following auto collisions. She helps assemble a reliable community rehabilitation and long term care team for our clients.

Josie is a Licensed Paralegal with the Law Society of Upper Canada and earned her certificate in Rehabilitation Management through Seneca College.
