Mo'Hacks Vancouver: Innovating for Men's Health

The Movember Foundation is the only charity tackling men’s health on a global scale, year round and addresses the biggest health issues facing men today: (1) prostate cancer, (2) testicular cancer, and (3) mental health and suicide prevention.

Most known for its work raising funds and awareness in the fight against cancer, the Movember Foundation expanded its mission in 2012 to offer support for mental health issues and suicide prevention.

Since 2003, the Movember community has raised over $850 million dollars in 21 countries and funded more than 1,200 men’s health projects globally. Movember has become a game changer for men’s health. One moustache at a time. But there is still work to do.

Just as deadly as cancer, Movember is using the power of the moustache to fight the culture of silence around mental health issues and shine a light on the unacceptable rates of suicide among men.

Men's Mental Health:

The #1 leading health-related cause of death for men between the ages of 15-50 is suicide.

Not car accidents. Not cancer. Not heart disease. Suicide.

Furthermore, males represent 75% of all deaths by suicide.

The brutal and honest truth is, men are dying too young. They are missing out on life, on family, on friendship.

But there is good news. Suicide is preventable. We can all do something about this serious issue.

Moustache or not, join us for a day to collaborate with industry leaders, men’s health experts and entrepreneurs. Together we will hack a solution that strengthens men’s mental fitness, and equips them to tackle life challenges; so that when the tough stuff happens, they know where to go and what actions to take, before they hit a crisis point.

We all have mental health. Let’s talk about it. Let’s hack it for men’s health.

About ProtoHack

ProtoHack exists to show people that they can create something amazing from nothing without having to write a single line of code. We empower and enable the non-technical community with the tools, knowledge, and know-how that will help bring their idea to life and visually communicate it through prototyping.

ProtoHack requires no coding. Instead, you'll be using prototyping tools, drag and drop editors, mockups, wireframes and anything else you think of to visually demo your idea on stage. Competitors will work in teams (up to 4) or solo.

ProtoHack is a 12-hour experience where you will build a prototype that communicates an idea visually. During ProtoHack you'll learn how to use the best prototyping tools in the industry, network with like-minded people with various backgrounds, become a better product person, and receive access to prototype tools, learning communities, and other prizes just for attending (up to $300-400 value!)

Over the course of 12 hours

1) Form a team: network and collaborate with like-minded people who will help you bring the idea to life
2) Ideate and brainstorm: think up every crazy idea possible, collaborate, and narrow it down
3) Prepare a business plan: identify the problem you're solving, who your customer is, and how to monetize
4) Design a prototype: visually communicate your solution through a working prototype using some of the best tools in the industry
5) Get mentorship: meet with industry experts to help you with your pitch, business model, and design
6) Prepare a presentation: you'll have up to 10 slides and 90 seconds to showcase the work you've done in the last 12 hours
7) Pitch to a panel of judges: notable founders who can help validate your idea
