"Qur'an and Humanity: Contemporary Challenges Viewed in the Light of the Qur'an"

A public lecture with Zainab Alwani, Ph.D. Associate Professor of Islamic Studies at Howard University School of Divinity.

Dr. Zainab Alwani is an Islamic scholar, researcher and community activist. She is the Founding Director of MA(RS) in Islamic Studies at Howard University's School of Divinity. She is the Associate Professor of Islamic Studies and the Chair of the Religious Studies Master of Arts program at the School of Divinity.

Dr. Alwani has authored and co-authored a wide variety of publications ranging from textbooks and book charpters to scholarly articles. Her research interests are in the areas of Quranic studies, Islamic jurisprudence, the relationship between civil and religious law in the area of family, women, gender, and inter-religious studies. She currently serves as the Founding Editor-in-Chief of the online journal of Islamic Faith and Practice.

Dr. Alwani is a member and board member of various national organizations. She is the first female jurist to serve on the board of the Fiqh Council of North America and currently serves as the Council's Vice-Chair. Founder of the Orphan Care Project, Dr. Alwani is currently working on a groundbreaking project to educate Muslims, in particular, about the role of orphan care in Islam.
